CAKE MAGAZINE COVER
Every year, the fourth year students of Information Design create a magazine as a class. Last semester, my class decided to take this opportunity to showcase the field of Information Design through our magazine.
So we came up with Cake.
The name Cake came from our concept of celebrating Information Design. We wanted it to focus on the field of ID, the people who practice ID, and the work that we have. Topics ranged from information usability to students’ personal experiences in the field.
In addition to each student developing his or her own article, we also had to propose a cover. My proposed design, which also later became the cover of Cake, was created with the concept of celebration in mind.
In terms of visual choices, the cover draws from the visual elements found inside the magazine to give a cohesive feel. Although given the freedom to use any choice of colour and typeface, I chose to use the choices presented by the style guide because I really wanted to further reinforce consistency and take advantage of the beautiful style choices made by the style guide team.
